The Big Picture

One of the great problems writing this missive from week to week is getting too buried in day-to-day events. When that happens, it is very easy to lose sight of the big picture – the very big trends that often occur less than once in a lifetime, but can have monumental impact on our personal and financial well-being.

One of the better long term thinkers in the investment world is Ray Dalio, the founder, and now retired CIO of Bridgewater Associates, one of the largest private investment funds in the world. Dalio grew Bridgewater based on a study of cycles through history, and learning how to respond to events by understanding that history. Whether you agree or disagree with Dalio doesn’t really matter. His comments are always useful in recovering the long term cyclical perspective that is so easily lost in our Instagram world.
